THE ART OF HORSES - The Equine as Inspiration

Muskoka ArtsThe indomitable spirit and graceful movement of the horse have been an inspiration for artists throughout the ages. Our aim is to bring together the passion and the beauty of both the artistic and equine communities and we’re pleased to offer a variety of programs that are suitable for the portable drawing, painting, sculpting and photography mediums. Artists bring their own supplies.

We offer a variety of one-day workshop that consist of a half-day interactive equine-guided session exploring the fundamentals of equine movement and communication, followed by an afternoon of open studio time with the same horses as subjects.

Wagon WheelOur HORSE & MORE Program: For visual artists, we offer a variety of one-day workshop that consist of a half-day interactive equine-guided session exploring the fundamentals of equine movement and communication (EQUUS 101) followed by an afternoon of open studio time with the same horses as subjects. At times, we may also provide other associated equine items of interest such as a variety of saddles, bridles, bits, harnesses, carriages, and sleighs to serve as stationary props for still life renditions and further artistic inspiration.

Friesian HorseOur HORSE’N AROUND Program: Private programs specifically catered to the individual artists’ inspiration are also available. All private sessions include the introductory session as the above, and private studio time in the afternoon. Participants will be accompanied by one or more equine facilitators who will encourage movement and engagement from the selected equine models. Horses can be presented at liberty, on-line, solo or in a herd, under saddle or in harness. Horse, artist and facilitator will work together to create inspiring works.

running horseOPEN STUDIO – past participants of our Art programs or EQUUS 101 (please call for details) are automatically granted membership to our Open Studio. Membership offers return on-site privileges on select dates for further creative opportunities.

Tikka, The Glass MenagerieTHE GLASS MENAGERIE - If your passion for horses includes a passion for stained glass, we invite you to visit the local studio of artist, Annemieke Struyk, who creates a myriad of beautiful equine and other animal-related works of art. Annemieke’s studio offers a rare opportunity for artists to learn the traditional art of stained glass, or to request a custom-made image of their own horse.
